Sports
We feel very strongly that kids should be exposed to sports while they are young. Not only is it vital to get them active in this age of childhood obesity, but we have also found that the camaraderie and team support is a wonderful lesson for children of any ability. If your child happens to find a sport that he/she will love for a lifetime, that is even better! There are also, for the first time, actual fitness and sports clubs for kids in Toronto, where they can use fun, interactive kid size equipment - they think they are playing video games, but they are actually exercising.

The site www.Sportalliance.com is a great place to find sports contacts for your kids. Under "Contact us" click on the "Sport and Rec Organizations" link for list of the associations for every sport you have heard of and some you haven't! We suggest that this be the starting point for anyone looking to find children's lessons or programs like hockey, soccer, baseball, gymnastics, skiing, trampolining, and tennis.

One other thing, the Government of Canada allows a non-refundable fitness tax credit on eligible amounts of up to $500 paid by parents to register a child in an eligible program of physical activity. You can find out more about this credit by clicking the link on the Sportalliance site.
