Your child's education is a matter of ongoing evaluation. Children change and so do their educational needs and it is very important for parents to keep an open mind about where and how their children get their education.

With respect to the private and even preschools schools in Toronto, some offer an alternative educational environment or learning methodology. Some offer specialized math, language or religious training. Don't assume that just because they're private that they are out of range financially. Several Toronto schools have subsidy or even scholarship programs available. You never know until you ask. Public schools are a great option too - there are multiple public boards in Toronto and you can talk to all of them about your child.

Intervention can make all the difference in the world - there is enrichment as well as tutoring, and sometimes an assessment can tell you where the difficulties and opportunities lie.

Our biggest piece of advice - be proactive when it comes to your child's education. Although the teachers and schools want your child to succeed, they have many children to look after. If you have questions or concerns bring them up with the teachers and ask for assistance. You are the parent - trust your instincts.
